AI use and attribution

The course encourages AI tools but requires transparent attribution. The team remains responsible for understanding, reviewing and testing every submitted artefact.

What to record

For each meaningful use, record:

  • tool, such as OpenAI Codex or ChatGPT Web;
  • model name shown by the tool;
  • purpose, such as planning, code generation, debugging, tests or editing;
  • affected files or deliverable;
  • human review and tests performed; and
  • any material correction made after review.

Do not claim an exact model when the interface did not show it. Do not add an AI attribution to work a team member created independently. For example, SQL authored by Muhammed without AI assistance should remain attributed to Muhammed rather than receiving a generated-code tag merely because later documentation describes it.

Repository convention

AI-assisted code commits use the project's declared trailer where required:

Assisted-by: Codex[model-name]

Documentation pages may include a short attribution note. That note does not transfer responsibility to the tool; the named team members still approve accuracy.

Review policy

Generated work must pass the same review as human-written work:

  1. Read and understand the change.
  2. Compare it with the actual requirement and current source.
  3. Remove invented features, measurements, citations and user quotations.
  4. Run the relevant automated checks.
  5. Manually test security, deployment or user experience where automation is insufficient.
  6. Preserve third-party licences and research provenance.

Secrets, account passwords, private keys, participant data and unpublished research records must not be pasted into an AI prompt or public documentation.

Known use in this documentation

OpenAI Codex assisted with structure, consistency checks and drafting several documentation updates. The team must review status claims against the merged application and should attach its own CI, deployment and user-feedback evidence. AI was not used as evidence that a feature works.

AI Attribution: This page was prepared with OpenAI Codex assistance. The team is responsible for aligning it with the course's full AI policy and its final declaration.
